From Chief Onesimo Lopez’ Facebook page:

After careful reflection, I have decided to retire from the City of Bellaire Police Department effective December 19, 2025.

Throughout my career in public service, I have believed deeply in fairness, accountability, and doing what is right — even when doing so is difficult or unpopular. I remain proud of my service to the Bellaire community and of the work accomplished during my tenure as Chief of Police.

Serving as Chief of Police for the City of Bellaire has been an honor. During my time in this role, I worked alongside dedicated officers and staff and with members of the community to strengthen accountability, modernize operations, and uphold the rule of law.

Retiring now when so much more needs to be done feels as though the job is half-finished. Regardless, I leave knowing that I acted in accordance with my conscience, my oath, and my belief that public service must always be grounded in principle even when that commitment comes at personal cost.

I wish the City of Bellaire and the men and women of its Police Department safety and success in the years ahead.

The City of Bellaire followed up with this announcement:
