From the Bellaire Police Department:

The Bellaire Police Department is aware of a large number of checks processed by the Bellaire Post Office that have been stolen and fraudulently re-issued by an unknown suspect.

Reports indicate that both mail collected within the City of Bellaire and mail dropped off directly at the post office may have been affected.

If you mailed checks in August or September 2025, please verify that they reached the intended recipient.

If your check was altered or re-issued to someone other than whom you wrote it, please file a report with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service here: https://www.uspis.gov/report

We encourage everyone to monitor their accounts closely and report suspicious activity right away.
