Blossom Heights School will celebrate its campus expansion with a Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Community Open House on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at 8702 Lipan Road, Houston, TX 77063.

After 16 years serving young children and their families with an Early Childhood program, Blossom Heights School has expanded into kindergarten and first grade in response to a community desire for an elementary education that carries forward its Reggio-inspired, nature-based approach. The expansion offers families continuity in a school community deeply rooted in children’s rights and an understanding of how children grow and learn. The school plans to add a grade each year through 5th grade.

Founded by longtime early childhood education advocate Linda Draper, Blossom Heights recognizes children as capable thinkers whose ideas, questions, and perspectives deserve to be taken seriously. Children’s rights to be heard, to participate, to play, and to be treated with dignity and the 100 languages of expression inform the school’s relationships, learning environments, and daily educational practice.

This commitment shapes Blossom Heights’ approach to elementary education, grounded in the Reggio-inspired understanding of children as capable, curious, and active participants in their learning. Entering kindergarten or first grade does not diminish children’s need to move, imagine, create, build relationships, and connect with nature. These experiences remain essential ways children explore ideas and express their thinking as they develop literacy, mathematical understanding, independence, and collaboration.

Teachers work alongside children as attentive listeners, researchers, and partners in discovery. Intentional instruction and sustained investigations grow from children’s questions, theories, and encounters with the world. Drawing, movement, storytelling, construction, and other forms of expression give children multiple ways to develop and communicate understanding. Thoughtfully prepared environments invite exploration, while documentation makes learning visible and helps teachers and children revisit ideas, reflect, and deepen their investigations. Developmentally appropriate practice honors each child’s strengths, experiences, and ways of learning, supporting academic, social, emotional, and physical growth together.

The expanded program reflects an ongoing dialogue between the school and its community about what elementary education can be: an experience that honors childhood, respects children’s rights, and recognizes their ideas as meaningful contributions. Families, teachers, and children help shape a learning community where curiosity is sustained, relationships are central, and children have a voice in their education.

The October 17 celebration welcomes families, neighbors, local leaders, and community partners to explore the campus, meet members of the school community, and learn more about this approach. The ribbon cutting marks both the completion of the campus expansion and the continuation of Blossom Heights School’s longstanding commitment to children and families.
