Details
Bring the family as Sculptor Bridgette Mongeon will be celebrating Mad Hatter Day October 6 at Evelyn’s Park. ( Mad hatter Day comes from the 10/6 number on the Hatter’s hat. Though it really means the cost of the hat. since 1986 it has been known as National Mad Hatter Day.
This is a multi level event.
Meet at Betsy’s for dinner, Get your food and hang until the rest of the party gets there. You will find Bridgette at a table with her new book “Alice and the Hidden 150.” In this book she finally reveals the secrets to the 150 things she hid in her monumental sculpture of the Mad Hatter Tea Party called “Move One Place On.” Bring your own book purchased on Amazon if you want her to sign it, or purchase one there. Betsy’s does have alcohol but you can’t take it into the park. If you plan on coming for dinner please let us know. We would love to give Betsy’s a heads up.
MAD HATTER WALK
There is a Mad Hatter walk/Hike lead by @Houstonwomens hiking around the park. Be sure to wear your hats or dress in costumes. Bridgette will bring something special for the person with the best costume. Group will leave the area round 6:30- 6:45. We hope to follow the white rabbit a time or two around the park ending up at the sculpture.
THE SCULPTURE
The final destination is the sculpture in the south east part of the park, along Mulberry and Bellaire Blvd. Here you can use your books to look for and document the things you find.
MOVE ONE PLACE ON CLUB
To become a member of the One Place On Club you must play the game in the book. Bridgette will exhibit how to play the first round and then she will make room for others.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
This sculpture is the best selfie spot in Houston. If you want photos with the artist you can also do that.
OTHER ACTIVITIES?
Let’s see how this day grows. Do you have croquet to play? Want to sit on a blanket on the green? Want to have a caucus race on the green? Want to bring washable Alice tattoos for the kids? If you have an activity, mention it in the comments and we will add it.
PARKING
parking is tricky there are only two small parking lots for the park, and DO NOT PARK ON THE STREET. The queen of hearts will appear with an “Off with their head” while the police give you a ticket. Instead please park in the church diagonally across from Betsy’s.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE. No dogs are allowed in this park.
