From the Bellaire Police Department:

On 07/14/2023 Bellaire Officers received an ALPR notification for a vehicle that had been involved in bank robberies in West University and Houston on 07/13/2023. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued until the suspect crashed at Buffalo Speedway and 59. The driver fled the scene on foot and was located at a nearby apartment complex.

Thanks to West University Police and Houston Police for assisting with apprehension.

The suspect, Winston Latson, is currently in custody for evading with a motor vehicle and a parole violation (robbery), and is expected to have additional charges soon.

From West University Place Police Department:

On July 13, 2023, at 3:28 P.M. Officers with the West University Place Police Department were dispatched to the 5500 block of Kirby Dr. in reference to a bank robbery that had just occurred. The suspect entered the bank, displayed a weapon while in the commission of the robbery, and left with an undisclosed amount of money. It was discovered that the same suspect had robbed another bank earlier in the day in Houston.

With the use of the Virtual Gate, a suspect vehicle was developed. Through collaborative efforts with the Houston Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the suspect was identified as Winston Latson and was found to already have an outstanding Parole Violation warrant out of the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole.

On July 14, 2023 at about 10:00 A.M. the suspect vehicle was located traveling through the City of Bellaire and West University Place. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a high-risk stop but it refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, a gun was thrown out of the window. The pursuit ended in a single vehicle accident at US59 and Buffalo Speedway where the sole occupant ran on foot.

With the assistance of multiple agencies, the individual was located shortly after, taken into custody without incident and confirmed to be Winston Latson. At this time, Winston Latson has been charged with felony Evading with Motor Vehicle and additional charges will follow for the bank robberies.

Winston Latson was sentenced to 16 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice back in 2010 for two counts of Aggravated Robbery (armed bank robberies). He was released on parole on May 10, 2023.
