From the Bellaire Police Department:

On July 18, 2026, the Houston Police Department was involved in a vehicle pursuit that entered the City of Bellaire before continuing west of the city. Bellaire officers assisted the lone HPD officer at the conclusion of the pursuit on Mullins Street after the occupants of the fleeing vehicle abandoned the vehicle and ran from the scene.

Acting Sergeant Hintz was assisting with the search for the suspects while operating a fully marked 2026 Bellaire patrol vehicle with his red and blue lights illuminated. As he traveled through the intersection of Evergreen Street and Alder Drive, his patrol vehicle was struck by a tow truck at a high rate of speed whose driver had failed to stop at the two-way stop sign while attempting to reach the scene.

The driver of the wrecker, Donald Charles, was arrested and charged with reckless driving. He was transported to the Bellaire Jail.
