From the City of Bellaire:
The summer season in Bellaire came to a splashy close on August 23, 2025, with the debut of the inaugural ‘Duck Derby’ at Evergreen Pool. It was a quacking-good time hosted by the We Are Evergreen Committee and Bellaire Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department and made possible by the support of Contemporary Dental & Orthodontic and Houston Orthodontic Specialists, and Ardurra Group, The 401Table and Tap, Bam Bam Martial Arts, Prestige Complete Automotive Care, Joystix Classic Games & Pinballs and Bellaire E.R. The poolside fun for all attendees was enhanced by games and giveaways from Bellaire E.R and Bam Bam Martial Arts.
Residents adopted rubber duckies to race down the lanes at Evergreen Pool with the assistance of the Bellaire Fire Department hoses for the last swim meet of the summer. The Bellaire Police Department was also on hand to give citations to any ‘wayward’ ducklings who strayed off course including: Excessive Speed in a Waddle Zone and Reckless Quacking in a Crowd.
Local businesses added to the excitement by sponsoring the event and donating a host of generous prizes. First prize winner will have a ride to school on a Bellaire Fire Truck! Second and third place winners received fantastic prizes donated by Wolfie’s Swim School, Lemongrass, Charlie’s B-B-Q, Lankford’s, Crumble Cookies and Fuzzy Pizza & Sports Café. There were additional prizes awarded for the ‘Duck Pluck’ where contestants were invited to jump in and scrambled to find their own duck, as well as a chance to win a gift basket stuffed with pool toys and gift cards.
All proceeds from the event support one of Bellaire’s premier gathering recreation spots, Evergreen Park and Pool. ‘We Are Evergreen’ is dedicated to providing a park redevelopment that appeals to all ages and all-abilities to nurture a healthy lifestyle for daily living while also improving the economic health of our city. WAE was established on September 16, 2024 by the Bellaire City Council as an ad hoc committee with a goal to provide a premier green space & aquatics center through community surveys, fundraising and site development.
WAE is a 501(c)3 and is partner with HGAC (Houston-Galveston Area Council-Center for Regional Excellence) For more information visit website ttps://www.weareevergreen.org.
