The Art Colony Association, Inc. (ACA) has announced that the Bayou City Art Festival Downtown 2018 featured artist is Chris Vance, a Mixed Media 2D artist from Bondurant, IA. Vance along with 300 artists from around the world representing 19 different disciplines will showcase their art at Bayou City Art Festival Downtown, benefiting non-profits, on Saturday- Sunday, October 13 -14, 2018.

Vance is fueled by daily experiences, emotions and ideas to transform a blank canvas into an expression of himself. Art is his medium of expression and Vance refers to art as his diary. Each piece represents a specific moment or experience in his life. He allows his feelings to drive the piece on a subconscious level. The canvas guides his decisions in forms of line and color as he is painting.

Exclusively for Bayou City Art Festival, Vance unveiled a new piece inspired by Houston that will be the featured artwork for the 2018 Downtown festival. The colorful piece titled “All Spaced Out” showcases Houston’s vibrant atmosphere and diverse communities. Vance was influenced by the fun and inclusive city that is Houston. The featured artwork is inspired by graffiti, cartoons, the skateboarding culture and trains. Vance combined his signature style and Downtown Houston’s ambience to create a meaningful and fun piece.

In October, Bayou City Art Festival, a sophisticated gallery, will transform the streets of Downtown into artistic avenues bursting with colors and culture. As one of the top outdoor fine art festivals in the U.S., the weekend festival will provide guests with the opportunity to see and purchase unique, custom art under the iconic Houston skyline. Bayou City Art Festival Downtown will benefit local non-profits and feature live music in front of City Hall and throughout the festival along with entertainment, beverage stations, food trucks and much more for patrons to enjoy. In the Children’s Creative Zone, the festival’s non-profit partners will host art activities for all ages and include an interactive place to hang out.

Celebrating 47 years since the founding of the Westheimer Art Festival, now known as Bayou City Art Festival, ACA has provided a venue for over 20,000 artists to showcase their work to thousands of art lovers from all over the world. Every year, a new jury selects participating artists, some new and some returning. This helps create a fresh and unique festival year after year.
