The City of Bellaire is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason D. Hester as the new Chief of Police. Chief Hester joins Bellaire from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), bringing with him nearly three decades of distinguished public service and leadership experience.

Chief Hester began his career in 1998 as a Highway Patrol Trooper and steadily advanced through the ranks, serving in key leadership roles within DPS, including sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and major. In 2019, he was promoted to Assistant Chief of the Regulatory Services Division, overseeing multiple statewide licensing programs.
Since 2023, he has served as Chief of DPS’s Infrastructure Operations Division. “Chief Hester stood out for his deep knowledge of Texas law, understanding of data-informed policing, and thoughtful approach to community policing,” said City Manager Sharon Citino. “He is committed to working alongside, supporting, and developing department staff and to meeting the expectations of City Council and the community.”
Chief Hester is a former Commissioner of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, serving more than 12 years and demonstrating a strong commitment to training standards, accountability, and professional excellence inTexas policing. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and now serves on the FBINAA National Board.
As a certified advanced instructor, he has developed curricula and trained personnel in subjects including use of force, firearms, driving, and leadership, and has served on numerous review boards and committees related to these areas.
As Chief of Police, Hester will oversee all operations of the Bellaire Police Department and work closely with staff, residents, and community partners to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality, community-focused policing services.
